Kiana Davis is the author of Digging For Roots and From These Roots Up.  She was born and raised in Richmond, California. She began writing poetry at the age of 12 to grapple with growing up in a low income community and to help her develop her identity as a young black girl in America.

For the past 10 years, she has worked as an educator teaching at-risk youth in Washington State.   In 2014 Kiana won a 4Culture Individual 2014 Heritage grant.

  1. I wanted to thank you for following my blog, I enjoy your post very much. I have two children who are teachers, one a reading specialist and the other teaches special education. Thank you for being an educator, they do not receive the gratitude from society that they deserve. AJM
