The ancestors weep
how far we’ve come
but our young
are still murdered
because of their skin.
Justice is blind folded again.

December 4th poem from my book of poetry Digging For Roots!
Please tell me what you think. Jay-Z’s song/rap really helped me heal.
Every year on the 4th of July, I feel conflicted about Independence Day and what was going on for African Americans at the time of the signing. Many people on FaceBook were voices their opinions about the day and sharing why they celebrate the day and why they don’t. I decided to write a poem to express my feelings.
This is my first post, and this is my first blog. I decided to name it Poetic Awakenings because poetry allow me to write my down all my feelings about life, culture, and religion and so on…… Poetry also keeps me awake and in the moment. I am livng my life aware of what is going on around me and what is going on with others.
Please enjoy my blog and return often!!!!
